Praying Mantis, in defensive posture.
Hi Albert. I should have said unique for me then. I have seen numerous praying mantis and not yet seen one display like this but then I don't try to hold them either. Thanks for explaining.
No, @Maria. Many species of Praying Mantis shows this defensive posture if you try to hold them. Some will display the wings briefly but others may hold it for longer, giving you the opportunity to take pics of them in their defensive posture. Some other insects like Katydid do this too.
The shots with the wings in that posture are unique!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Albert!
Thanks, @Antonio :)
