Callophrys augustinus iroides
These brown elfins are tiny - about the size of a dime (pic5) 18 to 20 mm. There are a row of faint black dots on the wings and checkered antennae.
Spotted in my backyard on a blooming Tall Oregon grape. Typically a butterfly of the Canadian Boreal Zone, the Brown Elfin is found from Vancouver Island to the Avalon Peninsula of Newfoundland. Its range extends southward in the mountainous areas of the eastern and western U.S.
