Scaly Earthball

Scleroderma verrucosum

Description:

Small Puffball of some kind, about quarter size (1in. or slightly less) diameter.

Habitat:

growing in leaf litter, in pine and oak wood, with undergrowth of sabal palms, palmettos, and ferns mostly.

Notes:

In the last pic, I removed some of the leaf litter from around it and laid it on its side. You can see the "base stalk" and some of the white mycelium. Found already "popped"
