Eurasian Jay; Arrendajo

Garrulus glandarius

Description:

It look very curious about me, checking from a safe distance my position. The jay is a medium size corvid, ca. 35 cm long that is very easy to identify due to its white rump that you see when in flight or the very striking blue colour in tertiary feathers. It is a very noisy bird, the Latin name garrulus means exactly that, noisy. It is omnivorous and accumulates acorns during autumn to eat them during the hard winter, being the main responsible of oak wood expansions.

Habitat:

Spotted at a oak wood (Quercus pyrenaca). Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.

Notes:

Camera Model: NIKON D300. Exposure Time: 1/500 sec.; f/5.6; ISO Speed Rating: 6400. Exposure Bias: 0 EV. Focal Length: 300.0 mm. No Flash fired
