Thanks Ashley. I knew about Aransas NWR and will be going there. Did not know about Laguna Atascosa and will look that up for sure. Thanks so much. I'll let you know if I get a picture of a roadrunner--or even just see one.

Great photos! Very much the cartoon character in that first shot.

You should definitely go to Aransas NWR. Great for the whooping cranes and lots of waterfowl. Not the best place for roadrunners though, they like more arid habitats. I'm not sure how far you want to travel, but if you go down the coast about 3 hours there is Laguna Atascosa NWR that is fantastic for tons of birds, and you would be guaranteed a roadrunner there. I see several dozen when I go. Both places are also great for shorebirds, herons, and egrets as well.

Hi Ashley. We will be going to a campground in Highland Texas in early March which is near Corpus Christi. Supposed to be some wildlife refuges there for us to explore. I love birding and spend a lot of time with my camera walking through the woods and paths and so forth. Any help would be appreciated. Taking a picture of a road runner would be awesome for sure.

Thanks! Mary, where in Texas will you be going? I may be able to help, I have birded and herped most of the state!
