Ichneumonidae
"Ngaro whiore" or Ichneumon wasps are a slender wasp like insect of which New Zealand has a large number of native species and several deliberately introduced species brought into the country to combat various agricultural pests. Ichneumon wasp species are highly diverse, ranging from 3 mm (1/8-inch) to 13 cm (5 inches) long. They are solitary insects, and most are parasitoids—the larvae feeding on or in another insect which finally dies.
