I second the raccoon ID! Cool find! I can't help but take home my hiking finds as well!
I collect a lot of wildlife skulls (and other assorted bones) that I find in the woods, and I am 95% sure that it's a raccoon skull. A possum was a close guess, but the shorter nose and wider zygomatic arches lead me to think it's a raccoon. I could be wrong, however.
I'm going to guess possum! So exciting finding bones on nature walks. =)
