Banded Scythris Moth

Scythris trivinctella

Description:

Size: wingspan about 12 mm. Adult: forewing dark brownish-gray with broad white diagonal AM line and oblique PM line that divides into a Y shape at inner margin; AM line may merge with pale basal line; hindwing slender, lancelike, uniformly dark with very broad fringe of hairlike scales.

Habitat:

Range: North Carolina to Florida, west to Texas and Kansas; also present in British Columbia and Washington. Habitat: diurnal, often seen at flowers, but will come to lights. Food: larvae feed on Amaranthus hybridus (slim amaranth)

Notes:

Found under the porch light. This little thing was probably barely a quarter of an inch long.
