Automeris io
Pupa: One day, I went walking in the woods around Poinciana, to find some interesting things to photograph. After about two hours, I saw a dark brown moth pupa, lying on the ground, near the base of a tree. I took this pupa home with me, and put it in a terrarium. This pupa, was dark brown in color. This pupa, was one inch long, and one half of an inch wide. This was a pupa, of an Io Moth. The pupa is about one inch long, and formed within the protection of a few loosely webbed together leaves, near the ground surface. Order: Lepidoptera Family: Saturniidae Genus: Automeris Species: A. io
Deciduous forests, thorn scrub, and suburban areas. Range: Much of the eastern two thirds of North America.
