Argynnis adippe
The High Brown Fritillary (Fabriciana adippe) is a butterfly of the Nymphalidae family, native from Europe across mainland Asia to Japan.
Seen in Kijimadaira Yamabikonooka Park at 700m in the mountains behind Nakano, Japan.
Wonder if I might have a male (darker colour) and female (lighter colour) here.
bayucca and pam it would be even more helpful if I included the link;

bayucca; here is just a photo collection site, but does have a Argynnis adippe collected in Japan that has the green on the underwing.
bayucca, this may be a similar species... http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/156...
There were so many similar ones in the park, I'll just post all the ones I took and see what you can make of them.
bayucca, i added another picture, but I can't be absolutely sure it's the same butterfly as there were many flying around in this park. Do you think both these are the same sex? On the last 2 photos the markings seem much clearer.
From the spots it should be Argynnis adippe. The only thing I am a little bit confused is the green glim on the underwing. Do you have any other picture of it?
