Description:

Adult body length: 3 1/2 - 5 inches Breeding period: March - May Young per year: 3 - 5 eggs; 8 maximum Typical foods: insects, freshwater clams, snails and crayfish

Habitat:

Shallow, slow waters with a lot of vegetation, such as marshy meadows, vernal pools, wet woodlands, beaver ponds, and muddy-bottomed streams.
