Green Rosella / Tasmanian Rosella

Platycercus caledonicus

Description:

The largest species of the Rosella family, these birds are primarily green / gold (fading with age) with blue on the wings and tail and face (below the beak) and a splash of red above the beak. Females can have a little red/orange on the chest.

Habitat:

Endemic to Tasmania.

Notes:

Can be seen in these photo's feeding on Capeweed flowers. I'd assume the two in the photo are a breeding pair. Do these birds mate for life?
