Fragrant Columbine

Aquilegia fragrans

Description:

Another strange one from my garden. White and pink flowers that look like little angels. The bees seem attracted to the top of the flower (which looks like the stamen) as apposed to the actual ones hanging below on the flower. They pierce this top bit. Seeds are in a pod. Flowered May to July.

Habitat:

Aquilegia (Columbine) is a genus of about 60-70 species of perennial plants that are found in meadows, woodlands, and at higher altitudes throughout the Northern Hemisphere, known for the spurred petals of their flowers.

Notes:

Thanks to AnnaWhipkey for identifying :-)

Hi berjammar. This is a great series if photos - my grandmother used to call these 'granny's bonnets'. It's nice to see the variety of plants we have locally. You should join the Plants of Britain mission: www.projectnoah.org/missions/22624101 - Happy spotting!
