A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Dulichonyx oryzivorus
This is the first year we have had Bobolinks in this smaller field. Bobolinks make nests in the grass and often are killed from mowing. I have been watching for mowing, which is done later in this field than the other fields. I went for a walk with my dog and discovered it was mowed. I scoured the field looking for them and they were okay. The parents were high on a tree with food in their beaks. The trees were in a protected area around a shallow well. Two young ones shown in 2 and 3 images - I shooed them toward thier parents and twas relieved to see they flew just fine.
