Cranberry Heath

Astroloma humifusum

Description:

A prostrate plant with small spikey leaves forimng small tight mats. The upright flowers were small tubular and an attractive cherry red with pale bases. The tips of the fused corolla formed a star-shape.

Habitat:

Growing on open ground amongst moss and rock.

Notes:

Endemic to S E Australia. The fruits are small and green and said to be edible. Flowers and fruit attract birds.
