Sawfly Larva

Description:

Small black larva. No hair, wrinkly appearance. I am unsure of the species. This is from Symphyta (no taxon).

Habitat:

Suburban yard.

Notes:

Found on the same day as the posting just before this one. Slight differences between this and the other made me post them as separate spottings.

Thanks BugEric! I had a gut feeling that this one and the other one I posted might not be caterpillars but I couldn't find any matches. Other than their color, the body shape is a perfect match for the sawfly larva. I appreciate the help on partially solving my mystery! Now, to try and find the species...

Not caterpillar, but sawfly larva instead. Note seven pairs of prolegs. True caterpillars have five pairs at most.
