Green-spiny Lizard

Sceloporus malachiticus

Description:

These small diurnal lizards are approximately 10 cm long, have very large and pointed scales (like spines) and have strong claws. The males are green with malachite blue in the throat, the females are less colorful, usually I see them in trees or bushes, but also on rocks where they sun themselves, They are found in the forests and open areas, they adapt very well to the human presence. I have seen them the rainy forests up to the paramo. It is very common to see them in the walls of residences. This one lives in my backyard, and hides from the Great-tailed Grackle a terrible predator into the ficus pumila

Habitat:

Rainforest to Paramo, common in gardens.

Notes:

Native to Guatemala to Panama. Today, 4/20/2020 I just add a pic od the female,
