The bark looks like Birtch bark but is more ruff and dark. The leaves look like spades and smooth edges.

Habitat:

Next to a river in a brushy field.

Notes:

Opposite, singular leaves. Grayish white bark smooth in some places and ruff in other place. Has lichen on the bark.
