Grey-faced Petrel

Pterodroma macroptera

Description:

Large gadfly petrel (41cm). Whole bird is blackish brown except for a pale grey patch around forehead, sides of cheek area and chin/upper throat. Legs, feet, bill and eye are black.

Habitat:

Common within its range of circumpolar sub-antarctic and southern temperate ocean. This individual seen in the Hauraki Gulf in northern New Zealand.
