Assassin Bug

Vesbius purpureus

Hemiptera; Reduvidae; Harpactorinae; Harpactorini; Vesbius purpureus Thunberg, 1783. "Harpactorini is a tribe of the Harpactorinae (assassin bugs). This group is the most diverse of the entire assassin bug family." Wikipedia.

A farmer brought some sacks of rice to the rice mill and deposited them on the concrete forecourt to be milled later. When one of the workers opened the sacks, this little Assassin Bug climbed out and strutted around showing off his fine colours. After taking some photos, I carried him to the back of the building and placed him on some suitable vegetation where there would be plenty of prey to choose from.
