shaggy parasol

Chlorophyllum rhacodes

Description:

Button is rich mahogany brown, slightly squared at edges, rapidly matures creating tan to brown scales(the more rain, the more the color leaches out). Stains a reddish brown color where cut(3rd photo).

Habitat:

in former chicken coop

Notes:

These showed up spontaneously about 4 years ago. They are wonderful edibles(only took me about a year to get them positively identified). A year ago the patch started to fail, after my husband laid grass clippings on top of the patch, not realizing where it was, but I've got it growing again with a little bit of horse manure and by leaving a few caps
