Anubis baboon

Papio anubis

Description:

Heavily built, size of a large dog, with a strong appearance. Olive - brown coat, and long tail, tail carried as "broken". Back sloping backwards, in comparison to shoulders, with bare behind. Black and bare face with long muzzle. Also known as Olive Baboon. Pictured above are the male, leader of the troop, and some youngsters.

Habitat:

Widespread through savannas - here seen in savanna at the outskirts of Arbaminch town.

Notes:

Actually, this troop was met in a restaurant, a bit outside of the town. The restaurant owner complained that this troop was a regular "nuisance" for his business... Indeed, while we were there and eating, the troop appeared and invaded the place - they could be seen everywhere, on the roof, chairs, garden... making terrible noise and trying to steal food from tables. They had absolutely no fear. However funny the situation was (they did not look dangerous to me, only interested in food), they managed to create quite a havoc, before suddenly disappearing.
