Caribbean Hermit Crab

Coenobita clypeatus

Description:

This hermit crab was about 5 cm wide and loved chocolate! It has the classic purple left claw of the Caribbean Hermit that it often uses to help close it's shell from predators. It is also called the Soldier crab or Tree crab.

Habitat:

Rocky area at edge of Mangrove Lagoon, Cas Cay, Compass Point, St. Thomas, US. Virgin Islands.
