East African Oryx

Oryx beïsa

Description:

About a meter of height at shoulder, easily recognizable by a typical, very long horns. Darker beige coating above, lighter in color underside - two colors separated by a typical black stripe. Black stripes also present on face.

Habitat:

Here, seen regularly moving in a groups of 5 to ten animals in Awash National park. Steppe, with some rare acacia trees.

Notes:

Ox-peckers love their company, as it can be seen on some of the photos. The quality of photos may need a quick explanation - once again, these are very old, and shot by an camera using film if someone remembers that technology. ;-) They were scanned and archived recently.
