Filamentous algae

Pithophora

Description:

This algae ranges from being a shade of lime green, to being a dark, brownish green. The algae is coarse to the touch and has a texture that resembles cotton or wool.

Habitat:

This algae resides on a pond that is about fifty feet in diameter, and about ten feet deep. It begins growing rapidly and gets much thicker as the weather warms up. As a result, this algae is much more prominent in the summer, and less so in the winter.
