Showy Emerald larva

Dichorda iridaria

Description:

A very unique larva with winglike dorsolateral flanges. Two large forward-projecting hooks on the dorsum of A8, and a black middorsal stripe. It actually looks like a dried bit of sumac leaf

Habitat:

Woodland, yard

Notes:

Host plants are sumac and poison ivy. They are very hard to spot, and move very slowly, often quavering from side to side when disturbed.
