Coyote

Canis latrans

Description:

This is a medium-sized canid whose grizzled coat varies from gray to white to brown to a rusty tan.

Habitat:

A generalist, coyotes can be found in mountains, boreal forest, eastern deciduous forest, and grasslands. They are even becoming common in suburban areas.

Notes:

I got this shot on a trail camera that I installed in our backyard. We live near the center of a large metropolitan area of about 2.8 million people (Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota), but we see these predators quite commonly, although they are usually active at night.

Thanks for the kind comments. I really like this trail camera. It takes reasonably good photos and videos and it's not unusual to find some interesting photos on it. Plus it doesn't care if it is raining, snowing, cold....grin.
