Say's Phoebe

Sayornis saya

Description:

A couple of Say's Phoebe's. Lately they have been very vocal and I have been observing parents feeding their young. The Phoebe perched in the acacia plant (in first photo) is one of the adults and the other Phoebe perched upon the agave stalk (second photo) is the juvenile. He/she was being especially vocal as his/her parent spent time searched for insects. I noticed four in the area so perhaps they had two young.

Habitat:

Shrubby desert covered primarily with creosote bushes, agave lechugillas, sotols and opuntia cactus.

Notes:

These are probably my favorite flycatcher species. I've always found their call so sweet. They are rather curious too. In the past I have been able to take a peak in their nests with the parents present.
