Noctuid Moth

Description:

A moth of varying shades of brown and beige, maybe the most common combination for a moth. Successful camouflage during the daylight hours on trees and rocks is so important for survival. About 2 cm long, with dorsal tufts of hair (second picture). Family Erebidae.

Habitat:

Garden lights, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.
