Black Eastern Gray Squirrel

Sciurus carolinensis

Description:

Black Squirrel with rust colored tail. Photos taken by my brother David this past summer.

Habitat:

Spotted in my mom's backyard. This squirrel was eating birdseed on ground beneath the bird feeder.

Notes:

Very unusual coloration on this squirrel. There are other black squirrels in the yard that have all black tails too. The majority of squirrels in yard are the brown squirrels.
