As suspected this is not a Paropsisterna or even an Australian beetle.
It was introduced into Australia for another example of a rather successful biological control of the agricultural weed called Blue heliotrope.

Christiane, this is another terrific spotting.
I do not think this is the Aerarium leaf beetle and may not even be Paropsisterna which always has the elytra forming an overhanging skirt to tuck the legs under. It is very close. I do not recall seeing even an image of this one before. Very nice.
