Blue-gray Gnatcatcher

Polioptila caerulea

Description:

Small bird, not 4 inches tall. Its feathers are typically more blue in summer but it tends to be more grayish in winters (when the picture was taken)

Notes:

Too small for a junco; it's less than 4 inches. This was also taken 2 winters ago so its feathers are not as blue as they usually are.

Cute bird. Looks like a junco.

This bird has a conical, seed-eating bill of a junco and the dark hood. It has white outer-tail feathers like a gnatcatcher, but neither the slender, needle-like bill, or the slender body.
