Silver Appleyard Duck
This domestic breed of duck is named after the breeder who developed the breed in Bury St Edmunds in England. I was quite excited to see this bird here in Turkey, as my home town is just outside of Bury St Edmunds. This is a female with its distinctive bright orange beak and legs and white plummage with lacing of brown and black. It also has the purple coloration on its flight wings similar to the Mallard duck. The male Silver Appleyard also has the dark green head, similar to the male Mallard. I could only get an overhead shot as I was standing on a bridge over the inlet to our local marina.
This one bird was swimming around at our local marina. We visit this marina often and I have never seen one of these before, so it looks like it may have stopped off on its way somewhere else, or has recently escaped from captivity as these are mainly kept as pets or exhibition breeds.
