Hi Perils; Bob cat is one of the easy ones to learn. Have a house cat walk through water and you will see a small version, or a bob cat kitten version of the track. Measure it and it will be almost square. Cats have recursive claws, so usually no nail prints. The main pad behind the toes has 2 lobes in front and 3 in back. Here is a good link from Michigan gov. that compares dogs, cats, wild felines and canines. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153... It does not have the best diagrams, but the callouts pointing to differences is a good start. :)

Gator fellow. I am trying to track bob cats on top of Mt Diablo. I need to know what a bob cat print looks like?I found this print ,which has a rounded appearance and I believe is of a bob cat. Any thoughts?

Yes it does, but usually the side toes are not spread at equal angles. The mud at the edge of the lake distorts prints.
