Common Five-ring

Ypthima stellera stellera

Description:

Ypthima stellera (Eschscholtz, 1821), a five-ring butterfly of family Nymphalidae. Ssp. occurring in Luzon is Ypthima stellera stellera (Eschscholtz, 1821). The more famous Common Five-ring Y. baldus (Fabricius, 1775), occurs in the Philippines only in Balabac, Palawan as ssp Y. baldus selinuntius Fruhstorfer, 1911. This one is just about 2cm in length in its resting position.

Habitat:

Spotted on a yellow alder leaf, backyard.
