Locust Borer

Megacyllene robiniae

Description:

Adults lay their eggs in locust trees in the fall, later the larvae will hatch and spend the winter hibernating within the bark.

Habitat:

urban

Notes:

This locust borer landed on the window of a work truck just as we were finishing up the day. I live just around the corner so I put it in an old coffee cup and brought it home for some photos. It's the first time I've seen this species.
