jade vine

strongylodon macrobotrys

Description:

Growing on my tamarind tree. The flower is against a background of the bark. It is endemic to the Philippines. It used to be common by the streams of the tropical forests. There are hardly any forests here. Propagation is very difficult as the stamen and pistil are enclosed by petals. The pollinating agent is a species of night bats, also endangered. The 3 photos are within a week, The blooms last for a few days only, so transient, so beautiful, and in danger of disappearing.

Habitat:

By the streams of tropical forests, endemic to the Philippines.
