Lesser Sulphur-crested cockatoo

Cacatua sulphurea

Description:

A medium-sized cockatoo with white plumage, bluish-white bare orbital skin, grey feet, a black bill, and a retractile yellow crest. Critically endangered. I was surprised to see cockatoos (I didn't quite realise how far east I had come!). It is found on Indonesian Islands and can be confused with the larger Sulphur Crested Cockatoo.

Habitat:

Tropical mixed deciduous area on an exposed headland.

It was one of those double take moments! One and only time that I have seen them so feel very lucky.

Must be wonderful to see them in the wild. I know to see large flocks of Macaws flying free here is magnificent. Thanks for sharing Mel.
