Acronicta dactylina
Orange larva with black stripes and spots, orange setae, black tufts
Woodland, yard
A striking caterpillar that took me years to ID correctly. It's fairly rare here. Some common host plants include alder, birch, poplar, hawthorn and willow

Wow! Great spotting!!
After looking at more images of this larva online I'm not positive it's a Acronicta dactylina. Maybe someone else can tell for sure?
Oh sorry Lauren, it turns into a dagger moth. I don't think I have ever seen the adult.
I am, DianePlatcoBrooks, the best is to be able to see from all angles, thank you.
Lovely larva, what does it turn in to?
Beautiful. By the way, I love caterpillars, specially the bright hairy ones.
I added 5 new pics to this series, in case anyone is interested. Thanks.
thank you Maria.
