Western Terrestrial Garter Snake

Thamnophis elegans

Description:

Mid-sized snake with dorsal yellow stripe, lateral yellow stripes, and checkered pattern of black spots. The most common snake along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

Habitat:

Variable, but prefers riparian corridors along streams and rivers. This one found outside the door of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Notes:

This feisty little one was outside the door of a church in Colorado Springs.
