Long-bristled Smartweed

Polygonum caespitosum

Description:

Wildflower. Thin, smooth stems that branch, reddish in color. Alternately arranged leaves with a lanceolate shape. Flowers dark pink, clustered on terminal spikes, very small and seed-like.

Habitat:

Suburban garden.

Notes:

Considered an agricultural weed and invasive in some areas. I have been overlooking this pretty little flower for quite some time.
