Caribbean Hermit Crabs climbing a tree stump

Coenobita clypeatus

Description:

I think these are hermit crabs in their shells climbing up a tree stump to get out of the tide. The shells are sea shells and not snail shells. They are within 1/4 of a mile from the lagoon spotting of C. clypeatus (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/159...) and it is probably the same crab. Unfortunately, I didn't go get one of these and check.

Habitat:

Compass Point, St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
