Great Egret

Ardea alba

Description:

A juvenile Great Egret

Habitat:

In a rookery located in a small, muddy lake with a large tree growing in the center of it

Notes:

I had parked my car next to the lake where the rookery is, got out of my car and went to stand next to the water's edge to see if I could get some Great Egret, Mallard, Wood Duck, American White Pelican, Canadian Goose or Mallard images. I had just taken a picture of the Egret in the tree and looked away for other waterfowl when something stirred next to me. Imagine my incredible surprise to find this young fellow standing next to me on the bank. It stood there for the longest time staring directly into the water looking for a fish or some other tasty thing to eat. I took a few pictures and a few steps back to leave all the while this little fellow completely ignored me. For me, this was my lucky day: overcast sky, drizzle and all.
