Southern Scorpion / Wood Scorpion

Cercophonius squama

Description:

A red/brown scorpion measuring up to 45mm length, the specimen photographed is around the maximum known size.

Habitat:

Inhabits southern states of Australia and is the only species of scorpion found in Tasmania. As the name suggests, it can be found living amongst decaying wood.

Notes:

Encountered this scorpion whilst digging in loose clay.
