Spotted Owlet

Athene brama

Description:

Small owl. Grey wings with spots. Front is white.

Habitat:

In the residential colony where I stayed...there were areas left to run wild and the colony had lots of trees. This one and its friends were resting on the branches of a tree in a quadrangle outside the houses. At least three owlets flew away...this one did not...Almost got attacked by the resident pariah dogs that objected to me stalking their trees.

Notes:

This owl is named brama in homage to the Hindu God of all creation; Brahma.

Thanks, James McNair...it has such an inquisitive look on its face. I wonder if it is a juvenile.

Thank you, Dr. Sherpa. Indeed I think it was looking at me the same way I was looking at it...with the delight of discovery.

A beautiful spotting, and the quizzical look in the first photo is classic. Such a gorgeous bird.
