Black Carpenter Ant

Camponotus pennsylvanicus

Description:

While doing some yardwork, I came inside and had an itchy feeling on my hand. I turned over my arm to see this little worker ant. These ants are considered pests but I won't do anything until I see them in my house.

Habitat:

These guys make their home in dead wood, and are the most common ant (and pest) in the United States.

Notes:

I let the little guy live, just put him back outside in the wood pile I was working on.
