Gray's Treefrog

Hyla Versicolor

Description:

Plump and warty, the Gray Treerfrog is commonly found around houses surrounded by forests. The term "versicolor" is given for its ability to change to a variety of colors including shades of gray, brown, and vibrant green to match its surroundings. Commonly mistaken and related to the Copes Gray Treefrog can usually be surely told by the calls. An interesting fact separating the Copes Gray and the Gray are that the Grays has twice as many chromosomes as the Copes and other North American Treefrogs.

Notes:

I received this little guy in a shipment of small green treefrogs. At first glance we thought they were all greens but after a few days we noticed this one turned dark gray and after a bit of research figured out exactly what he was. His name is Archer and he is quite possibly in my top 5 pets to date.
