Musa ornata Roxburgh
The difference between the ornament and commercial bananas is the number of rows of yellowish orange pistillate (female) flowers in between the bracts. The ornamental banana exposes a single row of flowers instead of two and contains viable black seeds within the berry after pollination. After the berries have ripened, the pseudostem dies and collapses and the rhizome are already sending up new bundles of leaves. The new plant cycle begins.
