Malachite Kingfisher

Corythornis cristatus

Description:

The dark bill makes this a juvenile.
At first glance it looks like the Eurasian Kingfisher but it does not have a blue cheek patch below the eye. The ranges of the two species do not overlap, being separated by the Sahara.

Habitat:

Marievale Bird Sanctuary Provincial Nature Reserve.
