Yellow-blossom 'Ohi'a (Lehua Mamo)

Metrosideros polymorpha

Rare yellow blossoms of ‘ohi‘a lehua.

Tropical montane bog.

Spotted on the western edge of Mt. Kaala bog, where the Mt. Kaala trail emerges from the bog and begins to descend into Waianae Valley. These blossoms are on a glabrous-leafed variety of ‘ohi‘a. A variety with pubescent leaves may be seen in the right background of both images.
